A beautiful, sunny day here today, with rain expected tomorrow. But it's chilly tonight.
For breakfast this morning I made an asparagus and cheese omelette. It was delicious. Grilled the asparagus then snipped it up for the omelette. Herbie wasn't sure about it, and I think I enjoyed it more than him. But then he was annoyed with me because I let the cows out into the pasture with the pond yesterday afternoon. He looked out the kitchen window and asked me where the cows were. Oops. Got the grain bucket and enticed them back into Little Africas' pasture.
Max was looking pitiful today. Will keep an eye on him. Missy seems fine, and he perked a little when I went out with an apple each.
Had 2 broken eggs in the nesting boxes this morning. Damn chickens are pecking and eating the eggs. Think it's the Barred Rocks. And one of the reddish chickens made a hole in my hand. Needed to remind her of the rules - I feed and house them, they give me the eggs !
Teri came over this afternoon, we walked the garden, had rooibos tea, and I introduced her to water kefir and gave her some grains and showed her how to look after them and do the 2 ferments. She's such a trooper. Gave her a taste of my kimchee, which is hot enough to clear sinuses, and then my sauerkraut. It's as if I'm the weird friend :).
Went to get milk for the lambs, drop of Herbies mail and the DVDs we loaned from the library, and then to the bank to get the money for Mike to pay to Jim for hay. He wasn't home, but we talked on the phone and I left the money on the seat of his truck.
When I got back I went and put epsom salts on the roses, blueberries and elderberries, and the fruit trees in the new orchard. Found some asparagus shoots, about 4 inches tall. Sure it wasn't there when Teri and I looked. The 2nd plant had a thin spear chewed. Must be rabbits ?
Put the lambs in with the others, Niece gets out quickly, but Hugh has accepted he can't get out, so he just whines for his sister. I fed them through the fence. I went in the check on Liquorice. Yep, she has a large udder so hopefully she lambs shortly, then we're done for the year. Strawberry got the halter off, found it lying next to one of the destroyed bushes. Also saw the other day her ear tag was missing.
Put one of the larger, hanging feeders in with the chicks, and refilled the kitty litter tray that the ducklings swim in with fresh water. They splash so much it needs daily filling.
