Farm cats
June 2014 - we still have the 4 cats on the farm:
- Mischka, a Siamese girl with the softest fur,
- Bandit, a gray boy with white at his throat who is scared of the girls (and Herbie) but allows me to do anything to him,
- Cooper, photo above, a tabby with a striped tail making me mistake her for a raccoon and nearly shooting her, and
- Marmalade, a stray who arrived in our back field in June, 2012
As Herbie and I both have allergies, the cats are no longer allowed in the house.
Marmalade doesn't have front teeth, so her tongue peeps out most of the time and she drools when she is happy, usually on me ! Cooper and Mischka both follow me out back into the pastures and woods when I go walk-about. Just like dogs, but at least they stay sort-of close.
Herbie thinks it's unnatural that the cats come running when I call. He says he's seen Mischka come running out of the old orchard on the other side of the house when I call them for breakfast at the garage door. Our black cat, Major, went missing, so not quite sure what happened to him. He didn't like Herbies' youngest, Elizabeth, and I saw him spit and growl at the TV installation guy, but I could do anything with him. He was very large, with striking eyes. Wonder if a fox got him, but have never found remains on the farm, so not sure.
Bandit is our only boy now. He's still a scaredy cat. Also a climber. Had to use the bucket on the big tractor to get him to jump down from the eaves of the shed, about 14 feet up. Not sure how he got up there, but he trusted me enough to jump down into the bucket when I positioned it under him.
