Our Jersey dairy herd
Daisy May and Dolly are both in milk at present. Daisy Mays' first calf, Eleanor, was born on November 2, 2014, and Dollys' 3rd calf, currently called Doofus as he couldn't find her teat for a good week, was born June 2, 2015. Plan on putting Dolly in with the Jersey bull, Parrot (who's a pretty boy) first as she's older and may take longer to fall pregnant, now as soon as I plant more posts so the boys can reach the back pasture without intermingling with the girls. I'm not planning on Winter or early Spring babies, lost Stars' boy calf in the snow in February this year.
Our Scottish Highland beef herd
We currently have 4 Scottish Highlands, Little Red, her first calf, a bull named Big Red born in May 2013, her 2nd calf, Immanuelle, a Jersey / Scottish Highland cross and her Spring 2015 calf, another Jersey / Scottish Highland cross named Seasaidh (Shay-see). Plus Butterscotchs' bull calf, Gabriel, born on September 8, 2012, who's black, and seems to prefer his own company as he often wanders out back by himself. He broke off part of his right horn in February 2014 and destroyed the round bale feeder in the process. Doesn't seem to bother him any. He's the friendliest of them all, and will take apples from my hand.
