So I sold Mars, our only ram lamb from this Spring to Al from Detroit, with his cousin Mike and nephew Ray who did the actual butchering. They came over and butchered him in our lower barn. Also bought all the eggs I had, 8-dozen, the 2nd gallon of honey I'd bought from Ed and 6 duck eggs. Their community used to buy their sheep from a German guy up in Saginaw, but seemingly he's left and they're looking for a new source, Googled, and found me ! So all my efforts of sticking us on each website that deals with grass-fed small production meat I could find is starting to pay off.
Today I toodle-doo'd over to the bank with a couple of hundred, so I could pay the balance of the car insurance bill I was short.
2 puppies have been sold, and there is a query on a 3rd, so that is looking good too.
Went up to Jones to chat to Carl about our beef. Big Red was a little bigger than I expected, 480lbs of meat. They will start cutting him in the next day or so. Can't wait to have excellent beef again :). But I forgot to ask if they could make boerewors (sausage) for me.
John and Angie came over to move the blind we had been using, plus they brought another tree-stand as Bills' blinds are great for shooting, but not so much for bow-hunting. Hopefully they'll get a better chance to shoot a deer in the new position, but will need to wait for a few days so that the deer get used to the camouflaged blind. I'm learning so much :). I even told Ray how to sever the rams neck yesterday !
Seem to have a UTI starting :(. So bought cranberries, frozen ones as there aren't fresh ones in the stores yet, stuck them in the zoop-zoop machine, added honey and let it macerate. Then added 2 large spoonfuls to a glass, topped it up with fizzy water, and voila, chunky cranberry juice. Feeling better already. Only had one infection previously, about 30 years ago. Not really painful, but a heaviness in the lower belly and a funny feeling.
Also went to the post office to mail Amys' preserving book. She's in the UK and is part of a FB group I belong to. This book is put out by the University of Georgia, but they didn't want to sell and mail her one, so I offered to do it. Took ages to actually order, I eventually mailed them the completed form. Also ordered one for me. They debited my card last week, and Fedex delivered the package on Friday. Cost more to mail it to England than the book cost ! But Amy sent me the money this afternoon via PayPal ! She should receive it within 2 weeks. I haven't looked at mine yet. Soon.
It's our weekend, Herbie is snoring here next to me, or rather snorting and blubbering :). Love that man :) but it's the main reason I sleep with ear plugs.
