Warming with a cup of decaf, then will brave the elements again to check the cow water, then off to take Anni for breeding.
Way, way below freezing here, and the wind is absolutely horrid. My hands are frozen sore after just going out watering the sheep, poultry, taking the truck out the shed, giving some grain to the sheep and the poultry, and I had insulated gloves on ! Toes frozen too. Warming with a cup of decaf, then will brave the elements again to check the cow water, then off to take Anni for breeding. All my DH wanted for his birthday was a pot if split pea soup with cubed turkey ham, carrots and pearly onions, and freshly baked bread to go with it, slathered in butter. After getting back from taking Anni to Lesley, I had to put diesel in the truck, stopped for ice-cream, then came home. It was dark already, so I checked all the animals, gave the sheep some more hay, checked the cow water, they still have 2/3 of a trough so it will be OK until morning, then kneaded the dough down that I had left to rise just before I left, made it into 2 loaves and put them in the loaf pans to do the 2nd rise. It worked, they rose, beautifully. I had cut a gash in each loaf, and popped them into the oven when they were an inch above the pan, as per the recipe. Two Amish white loaves. Then heard from my DH that he was on his way back from Grayling, then had to do another delivery before he could come home. What ? Dammit Bonnie, you called him in early this morning, he couldn't even eat before he left, so that he could come home early, but nope, you're keeping him out until about 1 am tomorrow morning. That's just not fair ! When the bread came out the oven, I took photos and sent them to him. This is my 2nd successful bread baking effort. I hope it's good inside too. The farm I took Anni to also has a Great Pyrenees mountain dog, but a girl, and a little yappy shitzu type girl. Then they have Remington, the red and white boy who is hopefully going to impregnate her, and 2 girls, a black and white and a merle with blue eyes. They have sheep and goats and also sell eggs, so very much like us. But their BCs are kept in crates in the basement. Anni looked at me so pitifully when I pushed her into a crate, she's never been in one before, poor girl. Her crate was much bigger than the others. I think she's going to be really, really happy to see me again when I go fetch her. Ron will have them mate at least 3 times and will then call me to go fetch her. Once the puppies are born, they get first pick of the litter in payment. Amy will get 2nd pick, and Jackies brother 3rd. Then I have a lady who was interested in a puppy last time, so maybe she still wants one too.
