The dairy farmer in Westphalia has completely lost it. He doesn't want to hand over the 4 calves we agreed on as payment for use of our bull, Brownie. He was virtually rabid. Wow. How can a farmer go back on his word ? Says I must bill him for the 2 years use of Brownie, and that the calves are worth $ 35 each. Does this mean he is willing to pay $140 for around 70 calves fathered by our bull ? Hmm, this one is already ugly, how much worse could it get ? Probably going to have to find a new baby-daddy for Annis' next litter as well.
Met a great couple today, Larry and Melissa. He's interested in our above calves, so will see what we can salvage.
Dry dry dry here in Michigan. My dad says another rainy day in Tennessee, they are 18 inches over on their usual annual rainfall and it's only August. We could sure use some up here, please God.
Picked up more beetroot, tomatoes and cucumbers from Darlene for canning. Need to make butter as well, but need to get stuck into the kitchen first - it's bad !
Going to pick our first broccolli tomorrow, picked some tomatoes yesterday and today. The red cabbage is coming along nicely, I hand pick those little munchers off them daily - even found some yellow eggs on one today and squashed them all. The hubbard squashes are looking good, but the gem squash from South Africa haven't made fruit yet ?? Planning on making a Swiss Chard and Feta Fritatta - all with ingredients from the farm. Eggs from our chickens, feta made by me from our For those who don't know, it's like a cold omelet, cut into wedges and served as a light meal with salad. Yummy.
Nearly midnight, let me try and salvage something of my day !
