I'm still horribly sick, but Herbie is feeling a lot better. He's lost 25lbs since his last visit to the Dr, he's walking on his treadmill, usually twice a day, early in the morning before he goes to work, and then again when he gets home. I put fruit in his cooler every evening for him to eat on the road, grapes, a banana, a pear or apricot, depends on what's available, but not drippy fruit like peaches or mangoes. Need to keep the uniform clean :)).
With me staying inside more recently, Maddie has taken to wandering over to the neighbours. Going to have to figure out how to attach the bandanna to her that she can't lose it. I'm starting to wean her, cutting down on the quantity of milk she gets, but she loves eating grapes and licks everything in the fridge when I open the door. We also seem to have the only carnivorous deer, she eats the dry dog food !! Had to caution Anni tonight, she was growling at Maddie eating 'her' food. I know there is only about 4% meat product in the feed, and don't know if deer eat insects and other bits of meat in the wild.
The FrankenChickens now rush me when I come with their food, greedy little buggers. I have to watch for attempted escapees when I open the gate and they go through water like crazy too.
We have the routine down with the 3 calves and Dolly who come up to the chicken yard at sunset, where I give them Dollys' concoction, chase Daisy May out, Eleanor is usually good about leaving, Daisy May needs more shouting :) and threatening with the 'big stick'. Then, I prepare a bucket of feed for them again in the morning, call Daisy May and Eleanor down to milk, then take the food in for Dolly and Taxes while JuneBug and IRS nurse after milking. I try and keep the routine even on days I don't have to milk (being ill I've stretched it to every 2nd day) opening the gate and letting the calves nurse without milking first.
Amy brought us soup yesterday, a curried veggie, chickpea, lentil and hamburger one. I could smell a bit of the curry, and got a whiff of a taste at the back of my throat, the joys of being sick. I enjoyed another bowl today, and had marmite toast fingers. She and her youngest, Lexi helped me with evening chores. She is an animal whisperer, Maddie even took the bottle from her. Everytime I saw her, she had Rosco, Anni, Lisa, a cat or 3 and Maddie hanging close. Anni was looking at me with that sorry, helpless look, hey mum, I'm just checking out the new kid LOL.
I'm learning to cook in the crockpot. Put frozen short beef ribs in it last night, with chopped onions, whole garlic cloves, carrots and some of the boozy BBQ sauce I made. Added frozen green beans today, and made a dish of brown rice. I was back in bed when Herbie got home, and he said he tried some of the veggies on a bit of rice, but he hasn't really eaten the past few days. I've eaten to try and get the sore tummy with meds diluted.
Hopefully tomorrow is a better day for both of us.
