Trying to fight the weeds in the garden, and keep it watered - had a little rain this afternoon, for about 3 seconds flat. Fortunately I have the hosepipes from last year all rigged up so can water the whole vegetable garden, although probably not the whole grain section. I try and do target watering rather than just general, to keep the weeds from getting any, high hopes.
My eggs are doing well at the Saranac Deli. Thanks to Lance, who has even put our farm name on their blackboard with "local eggs". Still keep my regular customers to the farm supplied, taking all excess down to the deli, where they sell out the day I take them, isn't that cool ? My chickens are laying in the woods or somewhere I can't find all the eggs, maybe should try an egg hunt, again.
Dolly has a sore foot, the front left one, have given her a bucket with hot water and epsom salts for 2 days now, and this morning put her foot in a comfrey tea as well and then sprayed it with hydrogen peroxide. Feels as if there is a little hoof erosion on the top, but can't see or feel anything else which could be a reason. She is getting a little better with me lifting it, touching it, and didn't knock the bucket over this morning. Seems to know that I'm trying to help her, but she still looks miserable, poor thing.
Since I wrote last, we have lost 4 white ducks and 3 chickens. Only found 1 duck, the others are just gone, but found all the chickens. So we are down to 6 ducks, only 2 Pekins left. Maybe some of the others are sitting on eggs somewhere ? It makes me so sad when animals disappear, die, get sick, but I read something today : if you deal with livestock, you deal with deadstock.
Wanda is terrible. She won't stay in the sheep yard, and I can't catch where she is getting through. She waltzes through whenever she pleases, and I usually only catch her once she has eaten all the leaves off the roses. Think she's killed at least one, not sure how the protect them from her. I sat in my Honda for 2 hours the other day waiting and watching, and she stayed put. The other girl was out today as well, was a total bugger to catch. Our Border Collie Anni is no help in catching her either, although I've gotten her to realise she is supposed to herd the lambs when they are out, although she has no idea on how or where to herd them. Probably as she had first Izzy, then Fish and Wanda in the garage with her, she doesn't really see them as sheep ?
