Why is it every time the chickens have a hiccup in their laying, there is huge demand for eggs, yet when the laying is plentiful, I have difficulty in moving eggs ! One of lifes' little mysteries.
Teri bought me some dill and dill heads, and jalepeno peppers, thank you Teri. I wanted the dill for knock-off Claussen pickles which I started yesterday. I've never had real Claussen pickles, but believe they are really crunchy, which is what I'm aiming for. Can't preserve them though, as the cooking process will soften them so will have to keep in the fridge.
Dolly didn't want to be milked yesterday. Had to collect her 3 times. She's jumping Pearl, so she's horny, and the boys are jumping her and Pearl. By my, and the vets' calculations, she's due October 30, making her 7 1/2 months pregnant, so this is really odd behaviour. She came into the additional milk over a week ago, and she looks skinny, not preggers. What's going on, Dolly girl ??? Bambi lay in the mud yesterday, her legs and udder were caked with brown mud. Opened a new pasture for them yesterday afternoon, and think they've already cut that down. Maybe I should take that huge crappy bale out to them.
Michael seemingly came around yesterday and spent some time with Wanda. I didn't see or hear him. He was still building his sheep enclosure, so hopefully will pick up Wanda and Strawberry tu suite !! Tomorrow I load up Muffin, BaaBaa and Cheeks for their trip to their new home in Zeeland, then it's just Mr B and Marmite who are possibly going to Beth. That will bring us down to 8 in total, 4 babies, 3 boys and one girl, Prince, our ram, Lacey, Buttercup and Liquorice. Looking to sell at least 2 of the boy babies, grow one for eating next year. Looking at this, maybe I should keep Mr B for butchering now, we are running low on lamb in the freezer, no chops at all left.
Jackie came over to pick up some eggs and dropped off her recipe for blueberry cobbler - thanks Jackie. This one has much less "cake" part than the one I made and much more fruit.
Only collected just over a dozen eggs today. Damn chickens. They don't stop eating, ever :).
Found 5 cabbage worms on our crucifer lane, yesterday there were only 2, the day before also 2. Squashed them today, as the chickens cannot see the really little ones and I don't want to take the chance of them living.
It's been a blah day for me, hopefully tomorrow will be better.
