Star wasn't improved this morning, so after this mornings' milking, with the dancing and kicking, I called the vet. Arrived early afternoon, a young woman, Christy. Gave her a shot in the muscle, another directly into her jugular. I tried to hold her head for that one, and Christy had to get another needle and try again as she was moving so much. Also gave me a different mastitis med for putting up the teats. She was a little calmer at tonights' milk, but understandably, she doesn't like coming into the stall anymore. I give her apples as treats, I think she knows I'm trying to help her. After today, 2 more days, and hopefully she should be well. Then a week of still turfing the milk out into the other beasties bowls before the meds are out her system and people can drink it. Let the herdshare owners know that it will probably be April 1 before I have milk again. Hopefully we won't lose the quarter.
Larry came to fetch the horse trailer today. Starlet and Chuck went walk-about off his farm, a neighbour let him know as he lives 30 miles away. They are about 2 miles away :). Cows, got to love them !
I was really spoilt this morning. Herbie made breakfast and brought it up to me in bed. Fried eff on Ezekiel toadt with melted cheddar cheese, a tomato cut into quarters, bacon and tea. He'd made hash browns, but said he put too much of everything in them and I wouldn't like them. I wanted to taste, and they were sweet. He was right, I didn't like them :)
He fed the dogs, cats (except Bandit as usual) poultry and sheep this morning. I did the watering late this afternoon, the cows, Star in the lower barn and the sheep. The chickens were good.
Shaw escaped the lower barn enclosure this morning and went back to the other cows in the veggie garden. So I added an additional strand to the makeshift gate to deter him after Herbie brought him back the 2nd time. Poor little fellow. Didn't see his mum in the milking parlour and high-tailed it back to the veggie garden. Herbie was not amused. Leaving them both there tonight, will see if the 3rd electric strand works tomorrow. It's amazing how in one day he fits in with the other cows.
