So what did Herbie do on his last day of vacation ? He cleaned the chicken house ! Not by himself, I shovelled too !
Went over to Jackies' dads' place to get a load of stones for the channel. When I got back, Herbie had already done 4 loads. First we shovelled the stones off the back of the truck, covered ⅓ of the mushy area. Moved the cows up the channel and closed the gate so we could do the stones. Opened it up again, and now waiting for them to walk it in to see how it works.
Then we shovelled chicken shit. Over a years worth. Took hours ! Or maybe it just felt that way. Herbie said a couple that shovels together ... And I finished ... Smells like shit. Got him in a little better humour - Burt accidentally broke another place on the back of the truck as the tractor didn't have good brakes and Herbie was so down about it. Need to find a 2nd hand piece as Herbie says that a new one costs over $3,500 !
Then I went to milk, while Herbie went to rake the hay. And the rake broke for the second time today ! About 5 rows before he was finished. Earlier I went to TSC to get locking washes and new nuts as the rake separated from the tractor. Later I was going to buy lunch (dinner) from Kentucky Fried, so stopped at TSC again to get a clip to fix the chain, they didn't have the right size, and would take a minimum of 5 days to come in special order and suggested I tried Farm Depot. Didn't know they even did parts. They didn't have it but could have it on Friday and asked if I'd tried Bader & Sons, the John Deere place in Portland. Nope, but they were already closed. Will try them tomorrow, but asked Farm Depot to order it for me in any case. So will only be able to rake again on Friday if Bader doesn't have it.
Amazing, but we've watched very little TV recently. Both of us wish he didn't have to go back to work work tomorrow !
Our chicken that was sitting on the 13 eggs had 6 chicks running around her today ! So she sat for 20 days without me realising that she was. She took the chicks back to the hay bales tonight so I went and picked her up, popping the 6 chicks into my shirt and moved them all to the side chicken yard. Want then to learn where home is early.
