Makes me think of things that can simplify ones life. Sometimes we need to be still and decide what is best and this could change from what was best last year, last month. I probably live a rather basic life, feed and water animals, milk and clean-up afterwards, collect eggs and box them for customers. Canning, cooking, gardening, shopping, laundry, harvesting, plowing, chopping wood - OK haven't done much of that one yet, but I should be. Then there are my "projects" as DH calls them. Currently still outstanding :
Complete my walk-in cupboard by re-sizing the shelves, painting and then returning all my clothes from the walk-through cupboard between the 2 guest rooms. I should probably go through all the clothes and weed-out those that I don't wear since I'm no longer a corporate clone. See, there it goes from being simple to really complicated. If I get rid of the clothes, what happens if I re-join the corporate world ? But I can't re-join that world now as my green card has just expired so that needs to be renewed first. Then, do I want to renew it, or apply for American citizenship ? If I apply for citizenship, it will be harder for me to travel back to Africa, but, my South African passport has also expired. Where does the time go ? So, should I first apply for a new SA passport, and then apply for American citizenship ? Neither country likes dual citizenship, but neither prohibits it either.
Need to move the unused canning jars down to the basement. But, the basement wall needs to be altered to accommodate the wood-burning furnace so everything down there probably has to come out. I have a vision of what the basement should look like, it is what is called semi-finished, methinks. There is a concrete floor and walls, there are 2 small daylight windows although one is partially blocked by a wall that has been erected but not finished, needs board on one side still and to be painted. The laundry part is overcrowded with the additional washer and drier down there, but thank goodness we still have the old washer as DH has put that in place so that I don't have to schlepp to the laundromat down in the village. I have all my seeds and stuff, aromatherapy oils, paint, wine and beer making equipment and bottles, soap making paraphenalia, some clothes of mine and DH, a blow-up mattress, exercise stuff, stuff from my ex office, waxing stuff, beauty stuff - oy vey, there is so much stuff down there and it seems to multiply. My fleeces and fibres, spinning wheel and that stuff isn't even down there. Nope dad, I refuse to think that it's because I carry it into the house shopping bag by shopping bag ! Or as DH claims, Dually full by Dually full (his 4-door truck with the 8 ft x 4 ft bed and the 4-wheels at the back) !
The garage needs urgent attention, as does the kitchen although I did get a counter visible yesterday, and surprise, it's still visible now. As my cupboard is a no-go-zone, I'm bleeding clothes on the bedroom floor, never mind the farming magazines that are all partially read creating a walking hazzard. Have started sweeping away the millions of spider webs all over the house, but the windows also need washing as does the carpets, and floors, and walls. Wall paper needs to be pulled off, or rather finished being pulled off. I've 3 hides in the shed that need processing, thousands of pounds of barley that needs putting into bags, the shed needs a good going over, found work stuff from 2008 in boxes there, as well as the stuff from my ex-car.
It's giving me the heebies just thinking about it all. It's paralysing. Maybe I should just stick to the basics of scooping poop and spreading straw ! Yep, DH, I think maybe we do need that holiday we were taking about last week ! I haven't had one since my trip to South Africa in 2007 and he hasn't had one since 1985. 1985 ??? wow. Remembered our ability to pack-up-and-go for a week-end away before the farm. But I was still "on duty" work-wise, with that eternal cellphone tether. Yep, I think we need to simplify more.
