When I took the cows back to the pasture of this mornings' milking, saw that Little Red had her little one this morning. Went to take a look, a red boy, pure Scottish Highland. Thinking about calling him Big Red. Herbie thinks that's funny - the big cow with the horns is Little Red, that little baby calf by her side, that's Big Red ! But he'll be big one day, although he may not stay red. Although Pigtails looks huge, her udder is small (if you get a glimpse). Herbie thinks she may be a dud, unable to calve. We butchered Midnight in September, so she has until the end of this month to produce a calf if he made her preggers. Otherwise she may land up on the plate !
Have put some sheep up for sale on Craigs' List as we have too many. Hopefully we can move more of them shortly. Sold 3 last month, 2 young ram lambs and their papa, so if we can move a few more we should have a more realistic size flock. We lost a mama and lamb in birthing, but still have 14 now in total, which is too many for the grazing that we have available for them. The triplets are still to lamb, so don't know how many still to come, but potentially up to 9 more.
