Got a fair amount accomplished today, also canned 5 jars of salsa that had been cooking since yesterday. DH approved of the spiciness, we sampled it on scrambled eggs this morning. Added smoke essence to the eggs which didn't impress DH, although I rather liked it. He asked if I'd cooked them in bacon fat. Know he's not found of the overpowering taste of bacon in most things, and the smoke taste reminded him of bacon. Won't make it like that for him again.
Bambi was rather good this morning at milking. Didn't come to the bell, I had to go fetch her and then chase her into the milk parlour, but once in, she was OK. First Mabel started peeing in the milk parlour, so I shoo-ed her out, then Bambi did. Just waited for her to finish then squeegee'd it out.
Thought of names for the 2 new calves. Starlet for the girl as she is Stars' grand-daughter and she has the white star on her forehead. She's also the more adventurous of the 2. The boy, I'm playing with Browns, as he is Brownies' son, but not set on it yet. He has white hooves, same as Pearl, both from their papa, although Brownie had dark hooves like Jerseys are supposed to have, plus the white patch on his forehead, but it's not in the Swoosh shape like Brownies' was. The white hooves must have been from Brownies' papa, but I don't know which bull that was as Star was preggers when we bought her.
Only found 8 eggs from the chickens today. What's up with that, girls ? Think I'm going to have to do some serious culling there. Think I'll can the meat.
Did 2 loads of laundry, fed and watered all the beasties, did 2 loads of dishes, unpacked them, cleaned up the kitchen after the canning, peeled 3 pots of tomatoes, cleaned the lower barn.
The impossible pie was rather good, although I'll cook it for longer next time as the crust was a little soggy at the bottom. The side crust was perfect. Think I'll bake another pie tomorrow. Maybe Pecan.
We went out on the buggy to visit with the cows this evening. The weather was perfect but no clouds so the sunset wasn't as pretty as last nights'. Tried to bounce Star to see if I could feel a calf, but couldn't.
The guy, Michael, who was interested in Wanda and Strawberry seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Maybe I should re-advertise them ? Have 10 sheep now but don't want to go into Winter with that many. Plan on butchering Mr B shortly, and selling the above 2 will leave us with 7, including 3 lambs which is more manageable. Potentially 7 lambs in the Spring, twins from the olders', a singleton for Ruth, then one of the ram lambs will be for butcher next fall, the other for sale for meat.
