Have been looking at various ways to bring money in for the furnace. Had a response to the CL ad I placed some time ago. He was interested in rams with large horns, and I was looking to sell the boy who had broken his one horn off, so he passed. I texted him this morning offering Mr B. He jumped at the offer, didn't quibble about the $250 price tag. I discovered later that he has a hunting ranch, and guys pay $500+ to shoot a ram ! Wow. He wanted Prince too, but I said no, he's my breeding ram. He said if I wanted to sell him after breeding season, just call !
Daisy May was easier today. Still had to drag / threaten / coax her into the actual stall. Used Eleanor to get her into the milk parlour, she stood beautifully while I clipped her to the wall, washed her and attached the milker. She didn't kick, gave over 2 gallons (methinks) and backed out when I released her and tapped her shoulder. She is a beautiful girl. She pooped twice, pee'd once, going to have to work on that. At least she's not defiant like her mum, Buttercup, who'd look me straight in the eye, and poop in the stall.
She tried the corn/soya meal for the first time, and liked it :). She's a very slow eater, next time I'll give her less. I didn't run any water until I had her tied, so it didn't get cold. Let her back into the cleaned lower barn, the door only open about a foot, gave her fresh hay, and poured a few more buckets of water into the trough. Need to do the chores early tomorrow before driving down to Ohio with Jackie.
Melissa came to get her milk yesterday, and brought her 3 kids. Asked her if they wanted to see Eleanor, yep, so down the ladder we all went, including the 3-year old boy :). Then they watched me chasing her abd Daisy May past the door a couple of times. I think I was lucky I didn't slip and fall in the mud. Teri came today for her lids, some milk and a carton of eggs. I collected 15 green eggs from the front garden, and re-positioned the screen and used some rocks to block the hen from laying there. Chucked 1 egg to the chickens to eat as it was light, but it was fine. Wonder where she's going to lay next, think it's actually 2 or 3 hens laying as there're too many eggs for just one girl.
Was stung 3 times today. My own stupidity, didn't see any action around the beehive about 2 weeks ago. Checked again today, didn't see anything and was disappointed that I'd lost another hive. So tapped it, still nothing. OK, started removing the duct tape that was holding the lid on from when I brought it home, and zzzttt, stung on my shin, then on my forearm. Sent me scrambling away. Heard angry buzzing so took my puffy waistcoat off, found the bee and flicked it away. Walked to the shed, took the buggy out to go check the mail, and on the way back was stung behind my knee ! Damn ! So have 3 hot, itchy lumps, again. Silly girl.
Special request for lunch - mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots, and I added pearl onions to it. I had a little as it was too late. Been having issues with heartburn, so cutting out late eating. Discovered I'm out of herbal tea too :(
Opened the small triangular pasture for the beasties as I closed the hayfield yesterday. Will see if I can pick up 2 more bales of hay from Mike tomorrow after off-loading the tractor tyre.
Well, bed for me. Need to be up earliesh.
