What a day so far. Go down to milk, discover Dolly has broken down the gate to the milk parlour, trampled the hay bale, knocked the milk cup down, and eaten the little bit of hay and grain in Daisy Mays' trough. Uugggg. Struggled to lift the beam the hinge side of the gate was still attached to, she'd bent it where it was still attached to the pole on the side that opened. Small mercies, no poop up there.
Daisy May stepped up into the milk parlour without much trouble while Eleanor lay down in the lower barn. Tried to photograph her sleeping but as I approached she got up, facing me. Took a little coaxing to get Daisy May tied to the wall, but everything was much calmer. Milked Dolly, then Daisy May, didn't empty either, left milk for both babies. Took Dolly back to the pasture, where she bellowed for Larry - for ½ an hour. She couldn't figure out how to get into the small triangular pasture where all the others were eating. Silly girl. I was just getting ready to brave the rain when he figured it out and came to her.
The band saw then stopped working after I cut just one piece of wood. Took the top and bottom parts off, the blade had come off the bottom, put it back on, everything turning nicely. Take another piece of wood, stops again. I give up. The pieces are too small to cut with the chainsaw, but too big for the wood cook stove. Was hoping to cut enough to burn until tomorrow.
Got the 3rd quote in for the furnace, the highest but they didn't account for the Consumers' Energy rebates, plus they charged tax which we don't pay as a farm. So the are a Kenmore, a Heil and a Goodman / Amana. Think I like the Heil best.
