Heard a commotion in the chicken house. Found my boots and the torch, Herbie grabbed a gun, and we went to investigate the agitated chickens. On first look, we saw nothing, so went through to the chicken yard, also nothing. On going back into the chicken house I saw a huge oppossum, and he'd already killed a big chicken. Herbie shot it, and we shoo'd the chickens back into the house. Re-checked the yard, the trees, didn't see another one. So that's what has been taking some of my chicks.

Opened the back door into the garage earlier today, and Bandit, the grey kitten shot into the house, and I can't find him - he's hiding ! Sargeant is no help when I tell him the find the cat, and Bandit was always good at camouflage, being gray and small, and having 3 levels to hide in.
Herbie was called into work early, yuck, as I had the massage table ready, the room nice and warm, to give him a massage. But, he may be home early too, so that's good. The insurance company returned our premium, they don't insure farms ! Not trying to insure the farm, only our house, but seemingly this is a gray area, do they think the livestock are going to damage the house ?? No Dolly, cows are to stay in the pasture and not come into the house to harm it ! I'm here all the time, thus the premises aren't unoccupied for 8 to 10 hours each day while we're off at work, so we are better able to catch any issues, but no, farms are special. We don't have any grain silos, only the house and the barn, and then the chicken house is also a permanent structure. It is annoying. We changed insurance as AAA increased their rates by 30%. We had no claims, the property values are still depressed, the cars a year older, but seemingly, they adjust every 4 years, so just suck it up. Talking to Herbie, we wondered if this was because people put in false claims in hard times to get money. I think insurance is a rip-off for honest people. |
