Yesterday Michelle and Aidyn came to visit. Haven't seen them for a while. Her husband Curt is now working in Tennessee (Herbie says he's a lucky bastard) so she and her 5-year old are here on their own, the next time he comes up here will probably be Easter - not great for family life.
Getting a dozen eggs each day, so things are looking up here. Need to re-do the egg sign and re-plant it down by the road so our customers know we have eggs again. Because I don't put the girls under lights in Winter, but allow their bodies to rest as nature intended, egg production is way down over the darkest months - 1 or 2 eggs daily from +/- 100 pullets, not counting the 40+ roosters soon to be butchered and the Bantams. Fortunately, we were never reduced to buying supermarket eggs, there was always just enough for us, all though it was touch and go sometimes with us eating 3 eggs for breakfast which was more than production.
Betsi came for her milk today and a dozen eggs and advised that she was planting seeds like crazy at the nursery where she works. OK, that means I should probably start my seeds, but haven't yet looked at planning the Spring garden - it's still on my to-do list !
With the 40 degree thaw yesterday, we have a flooded basement - again. Maybe I should try and figure out where it is coming in, although I have a suspicion that it is from under the lounge which doesn't have a basement part.
Yippee, our tax refunds are showing at the bank, although not released yet - tomorrow for State and Thursday for Federal. Then we'll be able to pay the property tax, silly really, I pay it and then they give it back to me at the end of the year and I pay the next one with the refund from the previous year.
Had a lazy day today. Herbie did most of the chores, watered the cows 3 times today as they drink much more in really bad weather, don't know why. I only fed the dogs and cats, did the milking preparation, milking and clean-up and collected the cows, but Herbie took them back, then did the milk for Betsi. Herbie did the hay for the cows and sheep / alpacas, watered the cows and chickens, filled the duck pond, fed the poultry and carried firewood. The lasagne I made yesterday was OK although rather crispy on top, then I made molten lava cupcakes, after asking Herbie if he wanted chocolate chip cookies. He thinks I do these things just to piss him off, but on looking in the cupboard I found the cupcake box, so that's what I made - trying to use all the stuff we have since I haven't had money to go shopping recently.
Realised that I forgot all about Valentines day this year. Didn't give, or receive, anything. Hee hee - I'm a marketing nightmare.
