Didn't get much done today besides chores. Bambi was OK. Had to go fetch her, she doesn't come to the bell, then shoo her into the lower barn, then again up into the milk parlour, Mabel next to her. Clipped her to the side rail easily, then chased Mabel out as she started to pee. Washed Bambi, dipped, pulled 4 squirts from each teat, attached the milker, all seamless. Then she hunched her back and puddled the floor. Great.
Named the 2 calves. Starlet for Stars' granddaughter, Chuck for her grandson (as in ground chuck). Larry likes their names ! He should come get them this next week-end. They do come to the bell, the little cuties.
Picked a basket of tomatoes, mainly orange ones, and a whack of Swiss chard. Processing tomorrow.
We went out and visited with the cows again this evening. Worsie was licking my bare leg. Always amazes me how rough cow tongues are, rougher than cats, and obviously much larger. brought Rosco and Anni with us, Dolly wants to take Rosco out, too funny to watch. Worsie seemed to fall in love with him, giving him the eye, following him, sniffing him. He wasn't amused. Something about that big, white Great Pyrenees Mountain dog. Anni adores him, so does Buttercup and Strawberry the sheep, and now Worsie the calf. And he adores me !
DH had a work meeting this morning. Kissed me goodbye while I was still sleeping, and came home around 2:30 pm. He was really grumpy. Said no one there wanted to talk to him because he was so grumpy. He's one of the only guys who doesn't get even one week-end day off, but has to go in on our Sunday for hours. No wonder he was grumpy.
Watched the geese bathing in the kiddy pool this morning. They seem to really enjoy it, then they go stand in the sun, beaks moving through their feathers, cleaning, fluffing.
Fed some barley to the sheep this morning as a treat. Kept them busy and quiet for an hour.
Joined a FB Fodder group. By sprouting the barley I can tripple the volume while increasing the protein, minerals and vitamins. But I have no equipment for it, and just starting to learn. Good for feeding all our beasties, except the cats and dogsvof course.
DH was craving cheesecake this afternoon, so popped out to buy one. I offered to bake one, but that takes too long !
Crushed the dried tomato peels this morning. Have another lot to pop into the dehydrator. the biltong seems to be coming along nicely. Can't wait.
Think we found a mate to father Annis' next litter. Carrie had a red and white boy. They've done 2 lots of stud already. First lot of puppies were tri-coloured, the 2nd lot all black and white. So wonder what Anni will have next Spring.
Well goodnight.
