Did the chores this morning, except watering the cows which Herbie did. Thank you, Herbie ! Can't wait for the weather to warm a little, then I can put the hoses out again and water the beasties just by turning the tap on, and if I can level the water troughs, the automatic waterers should work. Schlepping the 2 x 18 gallon buckets with water out to the cows about 8 times each day is a pain. Herbie is strong enough to tip them over into the water troughs while standing next to the buggy, I have to climb up the back wheel and tip them from the top. Scrubbed the sheep water tank out this afternoon, starting to grow algae (slime) from the sheep and alpacas dropping hay into the water. Popped one of those natural "keep clear" tablets into it to keep it cleaner. Didn't find any eggs buried in their hay bale today.
Frogz is such a cute cria. She comes up to me and noses me nearly every time I go into the paddock. Elly is much shy-er and hangs back, although Cavalier is starting to approach me, although he won't let me pet him yet. Have to keep a good eye out for Sockeye if I don't want to be butted again. He steps backwards to give himself some running room, puts his head down and charges. Tried it today, but I was ready for him and smacked his head so he backed off.
Amy, I think your 3 girls are pregnant, with Strawberry being the friendliest, coming up to me to rub her head, Licquorice also approaches me, but Buttercup is the most timid - turn around from how they were with you ! I managed to feel Strawberrys' belly yesterday as you can't see under the wool, and it was hard and round, with her teats showing some prominence. Can't wait to see what their lambs look like, or how many they are going to produce !
Nancy still hasn't dropped her lamb/s. She is huge and barrel-like on her spindly little legs ! I thought she'd drop them last week already, but I was wrong. Maybe I should chase her around the pasture a little, the exercise may start her contractions !
Gave them a mineral feed block today, stood and called them. It still works, they all came running up to me, including the alpacas.
