Took the tractor down the drive to the pile of woodchips. Loaded 5 loads which I took back and dropped by the water troughs out in the pasture. It is mud virtually up to the cows' knees. The mud is thick and sucking, so I'm trying to put a harder surface in place for them. Walked back with a fork to spread the chips, and sank past my ankle in black, oozing mud. Maybe I should think about moving the water troughs further back to give the ground a chance to harden but it's going to be impossible to drag them over the mud. Tried to scoop some sand onto it as well, which wasn't so successful, had better luck with a scoop of straw from where the feeder used to be, and crushed some rotten eggs. I knew the ducks had laid in there, but couldn't find anymore eggs. Phew, the smell !
When I fill the water troughs, I try and remember to use the timer on my phone so that it doesn't overflow. Need to get the automatic waters working out there again. The cows came to drink, and then gathered around the hay bale feeder. There was lots of raspberry thorns in this bale. Hope they can eat it.
Now inside drinking water and cooling down. It sure is hot out there today again.
Still 6 keets, hoping we get to have all of these grow up. The lonely guinea hen still goes around calling for the others. Such a lonesome sound.
Those window sucker things you put up to hold the hummingbird feeders suck. The one on the family room window fell off 2 days ago and I couldn't find it, the actual feeder cracked a little more, but I think I can still use it. Today, the one on the lounge window fell off. Watching the one on the kitchen window.
