Damn Bambi. Milked this morning, just over 1/2 a gallon. Have Jim and Jenny picking up their 1 gallon today, so texted them advising I was short and that if they came after 3 pm I'd milk her again to get their milk. Milked her at 3, about 1/4 gallon. What ? OK, so she has Mabel drinking from her, but we've had Pearl, Star, Dolly and Buttercup all feeding their babies and still giving us 2 gallons each per day, and that's with only one milking a day. That's 1/2 hour preparation and clean-up x 2 for under 1 gallon of milk. Plus she tried to kick at the 2nd milking today. Kicked her back. She's sort of been antsy the last few milkings, kicking out a little but not actually connecting with me, until today. Maybe I need to get her a richer cutting of hay seeing as she is not free-ranging with the others. Wish Dolly will hurry up and have her calf already, so she can train Bambi the walk from pasture to milking and back. She is good now coming into the lower barn when I ring the bell, but she did poop going into the stall at the 2nd milking today, and then again in the lower barn as she was leaving. Mabel did a huge pee up in the centre of the milk parlour, and I found 2 little poop mountains in the 2nd milking stall when I was cleaning up. I'm aware when she is up in the milking parlour, but because I'm busy with Bambi, I don't see her doing this, and I suppose shouting at her is just going to confuse her mama, who wasn't doing her business up there.
Went down to Jasons' 50th birthday do yesterday evening, met a nice couple, Sherry and Darwin. He might be interested in helping with the bees, as he really likes honey. On my way down the first time, saw that the smaller of the twin boy lambs was lying down on his side and couldn't get up. So went back to the garage and the meds cupboard for the sheep drench de-worming stuff. Picked him up and he walked off, he'd lain on an incline and couldn't get his feet under him. Re-medicated him as he was a bit wobbly on his legs and he is still much thinner than his twin but fortunately I found him when I did, not like having a dead lamb this morning !
Worsie got out the pasture yesterday. Amy was coming over to pick up dads' walll-paper remover as they have one wall of impossible to remove paper in the new house, so I went out to pick them some Swiss Chard and saw the calf out. Went to get her back in, opened the gate with the intention of then walking behind her and chasing her in, but Frogz wanted to come and chest-bump with me and I couldn't keep her in while chasing the calf back in. Closed the gate, and Worsie went trotting down towards the house. Fortunately I still have that flap of fencing hooked to the chicken enclosure so the channel is closed. She stopped when she reached it, I stayed as close to the woods as I could and she turned and went back towards the pasture as close to the fence as she could. Daisy May had come up, so I opened the gate inwards, trapping Daisy May in the L, and moved Worsie in without letting Frogz out. Shoo, worked this time. Found that the extension cord had unplugged so the fence was off. Replugged it in, and saw Worsie was happily drinking from Pearl. Wonder how long she was out for ?
Discovered I am really ambidextrous. I can paint equally badly with either hand !
Dad reminded me on how to check the washing machines drum. Oops, the plastic edge is shredding. Wonder what's gone wrong. Help !
