Fairly busy day. Started a new batch of yoghurt seeing as the 1st one ended up as chicken food. It was left draining too long when we were out on Tuesday, but the chickens, Anni and Rosco loved it. Funny to see the dogs eating amongst the chickens.
Tasted my feta tonight, rather yummy. Has a bit of a tang under the brine, and is not soft and crumbly.
Fed and watered all the beasties. Marmalade is feeling a little better, she ate today. Unpacked the dishwasher, and re-packed it. Need to repeat again, as I baked biscuits (scones) for Herbie yesterday as a surprise with sausage gravy topped with scrambled eggs, so have additional dirty dishes. They didn't turn out really well, I doubled the butter in error, so although delicious, they looked like - Herbies words - soda cookies.
Did a load of washing, milked Dolly, fetched the rubbish bin from the road, moved the sheep to the chicken yard, which throws all the poultry out of sync, had scones with home-made strawberry jam, yep, the ones I baked yesterday, and then went out and started baling hay.
So, I can move the sheep anywhere. They positively love that grain bucket. Had to do a 2nd trip just to fetch Hugh and Niece, who won't follow the grain bucket, but will follow me.
Got around the field once, well only ¾ of the field as Herbie had completed the one side, in 1st gear at just over 800 rpm as per Herbies very clear instructions. Switched the PTO off, turned the tractor and baler around and started back around the field. Was baling great. Turned the last corner and was chugging along when something went bang and the baler just spun. Oh boy. Must have broken the shear pin. Was supposed to go to an eatate sale with Jackie, but I cancelled so I could bale the field as rain is expected again on Sunday. When the baler broke, I texted Jackie and she came around and we went to the sale. Didn't find anything I needed, and when we got back home Herbie was here already, having biscuits and gravy :). Jackie drove my car up the driveway, she thinks Noddy is pretty cool too, but tiny :)
After he was finished eating and had changed out of his work clothes, we went out to the hayfield. It wasn't the shear pin, but something wrong with the needles. Herbie pulled the baled hay out the chute, fiddled around and fixed it, and then baled the rest of the cut hay while I drove the buggy around fishing rocks out the field. They really mess with the haybine, so everytime I see one I try get it out. Not always successfully, those suckers rise out of the deep, deep earth. Our most reliable crop - rocks.
