He put the snow thrower on the little tractor and cleared up to his car, but still couldn't get it out, so when he was ready for work, he walked down and then just backed down and went to work. He asked that I please clear the drive so that he didn't get stuck again, so I did it yesterday, and then again today. Realised it's not great to have glasses when trying to throw snow, it flies around and gets stuck on both sides of the glass, so I took them off and finished without them. Can't wipe them clean with my gloved hand, shirt covered in snow, so that was the best option. Saw the damage the snow thrower can do - Rosco has this deer leg he's been bringing to the house, and it was buried in the snow and I went over it with the snow thrower. Broke a piece off and shot bit of meat out as well. Note to self - watch where all the cats and dogs are when I'm moving snow.
I did most of the preparation for the meal the night before, marinaded the chicken in spiced up buttermilk, par-boiled the potatoes, cooked the cauliflower and made the white sauce. Didn't peel and cut the carrots as I didn't want them staying like that overnight, so did them early (hey, 10am is early when you go to bed at 2am) and added anise seeds. Just cut the potatoes into oven-fry sizes, dipped the chicken in spiced / herbed panko, and popped it all into the oven while doing the morning chores. And then DH didn't eat as he was too full from the night before, there wasn't time, and he was grumpy ! He had it last night, think he liked it.
This morning for breakfast I fried him spam. He was "lus" for it, so when I was shopping I bought a tin. Horrible smelling pink stuff. He opened the can and sliced it, and I put it in on of the cast iron pans and browned it. Soft fried eggs in another pan, potatoes in a third, with some cauliflower and carrots, his breakfast was ready. I had leftovers, potatoes, chicken, cauliflower, carrots and brocolli. Think I'll have oats porridge for supper.
Found 9 eggs again today, only 3 yesterday. Angel bought 2 dozen this morning. Love the usual customers. They just pick the eggs up from the fridge in the garage, leave the money all without me being around.
Yep, looks as if Star is starting to bag a little. Calf not going to come in January, hopefully by mid February. Will also give my arm a little longer to mend. Need to work on a system to move the 6-gallon bucket of hot water through the tunnel from the house basement to the milk parlour. There are 2 steps down from the basement, and a lip from the tunnel into the feed room. Hmmm. Can have a trolley thing to pull it through the tunnel, but the stairs are going to be interesting. Maybe I should rather just run the gas line from the house to the barn, and then install a instant water heater so that I can have hot water on demand down their and won't have to schlepp water through the tunnel.
Have been making water kefir. Did a batch yesterday with blueberries, makes it a pretty pink colour. Had a glass today as DH thinks I'm not drinking it, only he is. Nice and fizzy, but not much flavour. Need to do some more research on it, and amp it up. Think I'll start looking for a Kombucha scoby as DH takes tea to work every day and should like this too. Once I'm milking again, a milk kefir could be added to our farm as well.
Have lamb ribs marinading in the chutney I made a few years ago, should be ready for grilling tomorrow ? My absolute favourite, although DH not so keen. He likes spare ribs, which I've never eaten, or made :
