No dead chicken this morning :) So that pushing them around with the broom like a mad woman last night may have worked. Wonder how many nights I'm going to have to do this. Was strange looking out the bedroom window this morning and seeing the ducks, geese and guineas on the lawn, but only 2 chickens. They were really keen to get out when I opened the doors and gates to the chicken house.
Those 2 smallest lambs are real escape artists. They push through the fence, and then run back in through the chicken house and yard and between the gate bars I rigged up. This morning it was the dark one standing on top of the upside down kiddy pool in their enclosed yard as I hadn't opened the gate. Anni was lying giving her the stare, so she just stood there until I grabbed her. The white one I caught first and just tipped her over the fence. They have such fat, hard, round, bellies. Wish they were fat enough to prevent the escaping though.
Got a box of 2 different kinds of persimmons sent up from California by my sister. Thank you, Tanya. The smaller, darker orange ones are a little mashed, the box looks as if it had been run over even though there are "Fragile" stickers on it. Damn post office. Now looking up recipes. Have a whack of ginger, so thinking of doing something gingery. Have never eaten a persimmon before, so this is going to be interesting :) Maybe I can also ferment some.
Found horseradish in Lowell Meijer this morning, so have all the ingredients to make a master tonic. Have made grown-up mac 'n cheese as requested for today. Used my mushroom seasoning in the white sauce, with caramalised onions, mushrooms with rosemary, and the green peppers are currently sweating in their bag after I blackened them in the oven. Cooked shell pasta, it's going to be yummy. Poured half the sauce over the cauliflower and it's baking in the oven. Eagerly awaiting the man to come home from work so that we can eat.
