I know. Rather late than never, right ? As I was unable to spread the rings of hay around where the bale feeder was, I decided to plant the potatoes in the hay as it was. Not sure how they'll do, but as they were just potatoes gone to seed, I figure if they don't do well I haven't really lost anything other than time and a spot in the garden. Also put the tomatoes in, a little further up the hill where the feeder was previously. Nice, rich, black soil :). Also so easy to pull unwanteds from such nice ground. Anni was lying with me, and she loves weeding. She jumps and catches everything I throw :). She wouldn't come into the garden with me at first, but when I took some bales of hay out to the boys and horses, she jumped on the buggy.
Spent extra long cleaning in the milk parlour today. I've been milking barefoot, and the floor is wickedly slick. I was shuffling so that I wouldn't fall. Its dangerous for the girls too, especially Daisy May who seems to always take a run and a jump up the step. Dolly pooped as she was leaving the milking side, which made me decide it was time to bleach the floor. Splashed my pants, had to keep rinsing my feet as the bleach burns, and washing it down with the milking cleaner bucket, them the rinse bucket, a few more buckets of hot water, and finally the sterilising bucketful got it to bare concrete which isn't slippery. Watch, tomorrow Murphy will have both girls and the calf poop and pee up there :/.
Was planning to go visit Salle today as it was supposed to rain all day, but the weather was perfect for some gardening. Just a bit of rain this morning. Maybe I'll get there later this week.
Those damn geese. Pulled one of the newly planted Concord grape vines right out the container ! So I put them all up onto the outside table.
Have 9 chicks still alive and well. The 2 mums that started with the 8 chicks between them are down to 5, although the single mum with the 4 chicks has managed to keep all 4 alive. Still have 3 chickens sitting, including the Serema bantam who's sitting on some Americuana eggs as well as some of her own, or the white Silkies. Not sure that the smaller eggs are fertile as I only have large roosters. The guineas are still laying eggs in the nest by the rock pile. Hoping they actually hatch some keets this year. Have 4 ducks sitting too, but 3 of them are only sitting on 4 eggs between them, plus 1 chicken egg and a golf ball. Hmmm. More golf balls coming up ??
My dandelion jelly that I recooked adding more pectin set. It is rather yummy. So now need to open all the rest and redo them.
Today we had baked potatoes with butter and sour cream, lentil patties with a chili garlic mayonnaise sauce with a touch of sweetness from some of my cowboy candy and peas.
It's after midnight, and I'm sitting down in the dark in the lounge typing this on my phone while with my hair drying so that I can plait it and go to sleep. I washed it tonight as I've been sweating so much in this mugginess. Only came in from the garden after 10pm tonight. Much better in the early mornings or late evenings, but I still don't do mornings :). Although this morning I got up early to go find Doofus as Dolly was in the back of the chicken yard, bawling her head off for him. He was sleeping with Daisy May just outside the pasture. Silly girl. Can't keep tabs on her Doofus. Really need a new name for him. Will have to think.
Off to bed with me. Goodnight.
