It's snowing again. Looks misty out there, a fine, but rather heavy fall. Expecting about 5 inches until after nightfall. So just before 6, I'll layer up and take the little tractor out for a blow :)
Scotch seems to have settled after the loss if her calf, but Gabriel has been sniffing around her. Ideally I'd like to separate Gabriel and Boytjie from the cows, but the snow is so deep I can't get gates open, and haven't another water de-icer to give them fresh water. Watching Star, as I want to bring her to the barn before her calf is born. I'll take her as soon as she separates herself from the others. Herbie said this morning if the metal gates aren't iced to the ground we could use them the close the opening where the gate has frozen open.
No puppies, lambs or calves. Good, wait until the weather is a little warmer, girls.
Did the chores together again this morning before the snow started. Gave the geese some alfalfa hay again today as they enjoyed it so much yesterday. The sheep are eating all the hay given them, not leaving 1/2 on the ground and the other half abandoned in the feeder. Seen them standing up against the 2 still-live trees in their enclosure, the 30+ ft pear and the larger maple. Added to my list - wrap fencing around the trunks to keep them at bay.
There was a fresh bit of snow yesterday morning but I got home late from errands and picking up hay, that I didn't blow the driveway.
Went a little crazy in Menards. Bought a whole box of those Cadbury caramel filled chocolate eggs. They're smaller than real chicken eggs, and come 4 to a small box and I bought 54 boxes. Reasoning ? I really, really like them and they only come out once a yea, and they always seem to sell out before I can stock up. 2 days after Valentines day and all the Valentine chocolate is on sale, and the Easter supply is out ! WalMart had an empty shelf labeled for them. They had the creme filled ones, and new chocolate creme filled ones, but I don't like them. Landed up taking 9 small boxes of them back last year. At Menards, where I went to look at the instant hot water heaters we are looking at for the milking parlour, and sunflower seeds for the chickens, they had 2 unpacked boxes of the caramel and 2 of the creme. Fetched a flat-bed trolley and moved a box of the caramel from their inventory to mine :)
Cooked a chicken and vegetables in the pressure cooker last night, as well as started some brown rice, and heated up and finished them for breakfast today. Cooked them long enough that the bones were soft, but heated them before diahing the bones out this morning - sorry Herbie. I eat the bones, he's not so fond.
Found a snackwich maker at Goodwill yesterday too. The clip on ours is broken so it was a happy find for me. Chucked the old one into the rubbish bin.
Wednesday the weather should be clear and the roads should be good, so we're going to the East side of the State again, this time to look at haybines in Fenton at a guy that Herbie found.
