Took Herbie to work as I need to drive to Lansing tonight, fed and watered all the beasties. Mama goose and mama duck are both doing well with their youngsters.
Went to fetch the haybine yesterday afternoon, and Salle came with as she had dropped some sheep off at Jones for butchering. Our power was out, so we couldn't shear any sheep. I drove there as I knew where it was, Herbie drove back towing the 9-ft haybine. We'll pick up the 2nd one next week-end. It's tyres aren't as good as the one with the good rollers, so it's going to be even slower coming home. Went on all back roads as it juts out about 3 ft on the passenger side of the truck.
Was wonderful to have a bit of a visit with Salle. Gave her some of the comfrey that Teri brought, thank you Teri, and some of the Sweet Annie that Jackie gave me a year or two ago. She also took a lot of rocks from our pile as she needs them on her farm. She had brought some of her strawberries for us to do a taste test with mine, and I think mine were better.
Herbie spent a good deal of time going over the haybine with Scott, learning about what had previously broken and been fixed, and all other such things that went straight over my head :) Chatted a bit with Delores as well, she also has some sheep that need shearing, and they had power ! Herbie got a name of a guy that works on tractors in his own time, so maybe we'll be able to get the big tractor up and running soon.
Next week-end we're probably going to load the Honda onto a car dolly and meet my dad who will bring a van the same way. We should meet about half way and then to a switcheroo. Will be great to have a 2nd running car.
Took Elizabeth back home on Tuesday. I don't understand why she couldn't stay for longer, but believe she'll come out when we do the next lot of hay as she wants to be "ripped". Suppose she did stay here 2 nights, that's 50% more than she has for the past few years. We had a braai on Monday when Herbie got home, although Elizabeth and I schlepped the wood out, I made the fire, and then cooked the burgers. Herbie was exhausted and stayed inside. Elizabeth made a salad and we had potato salad I'd made the previous day, so our Fathers' Day meal was good.
Looks like New Mexico is back on hold. Herbies truck is not being moved, and once a new night driver is hired, Herbie will get the day shift, although why he has to start at 3am is totally beyond my comprehension. Why mess up 2 guys' days when you don't have to ? His current start of 7:30 to 8am is nice, but then I suppose it won't be in Winter as getting home around 9pm will still be horrible.
Well, think I'm making strawberry jam this afternoon, and then going to the foster parent training later.
