I also made a jug of custard :) the closest I've come to the famed UltraMel :). Sort of thought of making custard slices, or a treacle pudding, and jelly. Oh boy, I'm on a sugar high !!
The French Onion soup was delicious, although the bread went fairly soggy, even though I toasted it prior to popping it on top of the soup, and buttered it before putting the Parmesan shavings on too and grilling the whole lot in the oven.
The temperature dropped over 10 degrees from yesterday to today, so all the snow was iced after semi-melting yesterday. Can't say I like the water in the tunnel again.
Did get the last metal bale feeder back together today. Struggled while wearing insulated gloves, so took them off. Had to hammer the one bolt through as it was stuck halfway, before I could get the nut off. Slipped 2 huge washers on either side of the actual metal and bolted that baby together. Unhooked the electric fence and rolled it into the lower barn enclosure. Couldn't tip the partially eaten bale over, so cut the plastic and netting off as much as I could, it still has the pieces underneath, settled the ring over the bale, so now it's ready for the cows again.
After about 3 hours down at the DMV, the van is licensed again. Herbie is driving it to work while the truck is in the body shop, but come the weekend, I'll be mobile. After being stuck on the farm for nearly 2 months, I'm giddy with the possibilities of where I can go. James suggested I go down to visit them in North Carolina, and boy, if I didn't have cows to milk, I'd be sorely tempted.
