Tonight there is a light dusting of snow. I went down to walk Dolly and Daisy May from the veggie garden back to the lower barn enclosure. Need to remember to take a scissors down to the milking parlour tomorrow as Daisy Mays' tail is a bit matted and it slaps her while walking, so I will give it a trim. Dolly walks so gingerly on the humpy, frozen ground. Across the back "lawn" is easier, but both the veggie garden and the lower barn enclosure has been churned up by animal hooves so it's like walking on small moon craters.
Had to ask Herbie to flip the bale feeder over today, as Parrot was standing inside it with all 4 legs this morning, and he seemed disgruntled when I shoo'ed him out. Both Little, and Big Red stand with their front legs in it, but it's their back-ends that I want to keep out. Cows have not sense of not shitting where they eat, literally. So we either have them not being able to reach the last bit of hay at the bottom, or messing on it. I'd rather them not being able to reach, but now that he knows how to get in, I wonder if the higher walls are enough to keep him out.
The boarding chickens have been a bit of a learning curve. I have them in the side yard, but as the electric cord for the de-icer to the milk girls trough snakes through the little door, the piece doesn't latch too well. I pushed a log up against it, but this morning there were about 20 of my chickens, mainly roosters, in with the little ones. They'd pushed the door open. So it took over half an hour to catch them, one by one, and chuck them out. Caused a bit of a fluster with the newbies. Sorry chickies.
Have made a new lot of feta cheese. It was so silky that I didn't put it in the brine solution, rather just salted it. Will see tomorrow. Have another 2-gallons or so in the bucket now. Need to go drain it.
Wishing all a great 2015. May this new year be awesome ! And a little more money would be most welcome.
