Major still hasn't put in an appearance.
We have this hugest hawk, or buzzard, or pre-historic raptor chicken-killer bird ! It flew up from the ground in the old orchard, so I went to see what it was eating (hopefully not Major) and found one of my Barred Rock girls half devoured. Herbie brought her out of the woods so that we could lure the big bird, and at midday today it was sitting in the bushes on the other side of the vegetable garden. It's ginormous ! Herbie grabbed the .22 and shot at it, reloaded twice and shot again. It eventually flew further down, with Herbie following it, until it left. He said it probably thought as he couldn't hit it with a bullet, he was going to throw the gun at it.
Herbie fixed the chicken house door today, thank you Herbie. He put nylon netting where the glass used to be, so the chicken house will be ventilated without the risk of vermin getting in and eating our chickens.
It's such a struggle to keep the poultry safe when everything seems to think they taste like chicken ! They even eat each other, the eggs as well.
Seems there is a tummy bug going around. Heard of a few people who have been laid low with it. Not nice.
Still no new lambs, or calves. No Spring, or green anywhere yet ! Nothing flowering and yet my dad says Spring is nearly over in Tennessee. But the sun shone today, so I could shovel the walk to the chicken house and the concrete outside the garage.
