He went to the chiropractor on Monday evening, and felt great when he got home, then woke in agony on Tuesday morning, especially between his neck and left shoulder in addition to his lower back and left knee :(. At the Drs this morning, he was sent to the new hospital for an X-ray, hopefully he just tore ligaments in his knee and didn't chip bone. He came home with a industrial looking knee brace which immobilises the whole leg. Poor baby. Hope he gets a good nights' rest, he's already primed me that he may wake me at 2am again to put his socks on.
Otherwise we had a very quiet weekend.
Gabriel broke into the channel where I found him this morning - Dolly is on heat ! I switched the electricity off to fix it, herded Gabriel back into his allocated pasture, and managed to get Immanuelle back in with the other heifer, Eleanor, Dolly and Doofus. Really need to arrange with Jackie / Bert to get some sand and gravel as the channel is about a ft deep with mud. Teri asked if I was afraid of picking something nasty up walking around barefoot on the farm. Can't wear shoes in the muck as it sucks them off my feet, then I have to go fishing for them ! At least barefoot, I just hose them off.
Earlier this week Dolly was in with the Scottish Highlands, and Doofus and Immanuelle too. Just let her out from there for milking, and returned her to the correct pasture after fixing the fences. I seem to fix a lot of fences at present ! Eventually got Immanuelle with the others, but she's not a happy heifer. This morning, once again the fence is down, but this time the whole end post has been wrenched out of the ground, so need the post hole digger to fix it. Damn, as I currently have the rototiller on the tractor after some garden work yesterday. Still need to till some more. Think that I need to re-think the pasture configuration as electric fencing isn't holding up to keeping the "in heat" cows from the bulls. I suppose that I'm going to have to run water down to the back pastures and then close the channel, only using it to get the girls up for milking.
