To the shed to get the correct size nuts for the shear pins, walk back out to the hayfield. Put the pin in, secure the nut, and then discover that there aren't any spanners in the toolbox. Damn. Walk back to the shed, get 2 that fit, 1 for the nut, the other to hold the bolt in place. I forgot my cap so picked that up before heading back out to the field. Tighten it up, start the tractor up, go about a foot, bang, and then the shear pin snaps again. OK, something is definitely wrong. Will have to wait for help to arrive. Damn, really need to get that field baled.
After milking this morning, let Dolly out and tried to get Daisy May to follow her. No dice, she keeps running away from me. I was barefoot, so squelched through the mud to chase her, and she hightails it lower down. OK, took an armful of hay and left it in the open gateway to entice her, then went to feed the sheep. Saw she was out when I returned, so followed to the gate to the pasture, where Dolly was eating and Larry was waiting for her to feed him. Opened the gate wide, and Dolly went straight in and stood for Larry to nurse, poor bugger, I took all her milk this morning, then I walked around to move Daisy May towards the gate. She sort-of went passed it, stopped, I changed direction, and in she went. At least she has a collar on now, so will have to wait for her calf to then move her down to the lower barn and break her into the milking routine. Can't bribe her with grain, she doesn't seem that fond of it, preferring hay.
Lovely Autumn day here. The leaves of the maples are starting to turn, red, orange and yellow, very pretty. Need to get that hay in as there is a chance of rain tonight and tomorrow, but in the meantime, I'm just waiting. Maybe I should clean the kitchen :( Hate that job, so do everything but that.
