Yesterday afternoon late, I saw Seasaidh dashing across the veggie garden with the bulls and horses ! Missy had just seen her and started after her. Damn. I rushed to put boots on to go rescue her, stepped out the glass French doors to see her calmly being licked by mum :). Little bugger ran under the fence and returned to mum. This, after I saw her getting her nose shocked when she was 2-days old.
Being rather ambitious today. Have 2 lots of yoghurt hanging to drain, 2 lots of cheese a-making in buckets on the kitchen floor, one feta and my 1st attempt at a Parmesan. Then also made a batch of potato salad, steamed the eggs and they came out perfect. Plus have a bowl of cream to churn into butter
Yesterday was a perfect day. Today is more overcast. Have about 5-hosepipes all attached together so just have to walk with it to the different water troughs. We have 5 of them, 4 for the cows and one for the poultry out back. The sheep trough in the front has a permanent hose attached. Much easier, and quicker than schlepping the buckets on the buggy.
Seems we have no rain in the current forecast, so I'm considering putting a sprinkler in the berry garden to make weeding easier. Might have to add another hosepipe to the snake :) to reach.
Even bigger plans for once we eventually get our tax refund and see how much we'll have to pay in penalties on our property tax for late payment. The big thing I want to get is an autowaterer for the cows. Prices them around $650, but that excludes digging the well for it. We will probablyl need to replace the air conditioning unit too as the guy said it wasn't working when he installed the new furnace last December. Then I also plan on digging a French drain along the whole back of the house as the melting snow seeps into the basement each Spring. If I place it just at the outer edge of the garden, it should work to catch the run-off. Also want to plumb the various drainpipes into it, as the chickens (and dogs) keep dislodging the pipes so that the water doesn't drain. Also thinking about running electricity to the berry garden where I intend putting my greenhouse. Need electricity to run the fencer and to run the water de-icers in Winter without tripping the houses' electricity.
Max is running again ! So it was his feet that were bothering him. He's still very wary of me although Missy comes to have her hear scratched. Need to work with both of them to lift their feet, and of course, so that we can ride them and get them to pull a cart.
Busy drying Dolly up, and spoke to Herbie about helping me this weekend to move Immanuelle to the lower barn enclosure and then having her and Daisy May there together. Herbie saw Immanuelle nursing on one side of Little Red while Seasaidh was nursing on the other side. So, she needs to be separated, and then Eleanor needs to be weaned so by having them away from the others it should work. But that does mean I'm going to have to milk Daisy May twice a day, and can't just leave her with Eleanor and not having to milk every day if I don't need the milk.
Sun's out, so let me go do something.
