Today I made a sheep feeder from a cattle panel. Spoke to my dad yesterday about cutting the holes in it for them to reach deeper, and he said use a Sawzall (?). We have an electric saw, so I asked Herbie if we had a metal cutting blade for it. He smiled, and said he would teach me to use the plasma cutter. That was way cooler, and so quick. I cut 3 holes in about 5 minutes ! Then took it to the front garden enclosure, and Herbie hit 3 metal fence posts into the ground, we attached it so the sheep can't tip it over, and voila, we have a sheep feeder that keeps the hay enclosed so that they can't sleep and poop on it. This afternoon, I took a bucket of grain and went out to the pasture and called the sheep. They came running, and followed me all the way to the front yard, into the enclosure. Tipped the grain on the ground for them, left and locked the gate behind me. First real look I've had of the sheep recently, and they are covered in burrs. Annoying that the electric fence can't contain them, and they go zipping through the woods etc etc. But safely behind wooden fencing now, and I moved Rosco to be with them, while Fletch and Anni are now in the lower barn enclosure. I'll have to deal with them staying in when the cows come and go for milking, but at least most of the baby chicks don't wander down there. The bantam rooster with his 5 girls spend the day there, but I think they are big enough to fend off the dogs, as they killed another girl chickie this morning.
