Swopped butter for hay today. Isn't that sweet, the cows eat the hay so that they can make milk and I can make butter, so in effect, they are feeding themselves !

I was finishing up my breakfast when Herbie came in after raking cow poop from the threshold of the lower barn. He said that he only had one bit of advice for anyone even thinking about farming, make sure you have a very good front loader tractor, even before you get any animals. It must be a minimum of 50 hp, not one of those little garden front-loader tractors, but a serious one. LOL As you can see, we don't have one. When Herbie went to buy his tractor many years ago, he wanted a 2nd hand one with a loader, and the dealer talked him into getting a brand new little tractor without the front loader instead, for the same price ! Herbie on our little 35 hp tractor, baling hay in 2010. This was when the tractor still had all it's lights, before I went bundu bashing with it. Here is another little girl alpaca. Vicky gave birth this morning, so we have moved them up to the chicken house as Cavelier is trying to jump Vicky and the little one is being bumped over as she is not yet agile enough to get out of the way. This is Bennis' 2nd daughter, what shall we name her ?? She is not as white as Frogz, nor is her skin as pink, but then Abby is white, and Vicky is black. I hope to share some of the daily happenings on the farm, some funny, some sad, depending on what is happening.
Today it is Friday. The only reason I know is that I have a herd-share customer today who needs 1 1/2 gallons of milk, otherwise every day is the same in a way, but also different. Get up, milk the cows, feed the poultry, cats and dogs. Make sure everything has water, collect eggs, make breakfast, or rather lunch, then try and do one of the many chores that need doing, before milking the cows again in the evening, cleaning the milking equipment and the milking barn, putting all the animals to bed. OK, that part is rather easy. I just clap my hands at the ducks and geese, and they waddle off to bed. The chickens put themselves to bed, although the baby chicks need chasing into the garage. Need to clean the chicken house out so that I can move the babies to the chicken house as the garage is starting to smell, and they make a fine dust that covers everything ! |
