We have about 3 ft of snow on the ground, with drifts about my height. Saw Wanda standing on top of one today in their enclosure, she was higher than the fence. Fortunately, the drift is a little way away from the fence, otherwise she would be outside the enclosure. There was a good 5 inches of snow last night. Covered the sheeps' hay. They were calling to me when I went out with the wagon and when I started knocking the snow off the top the all started eating. The heated hose had some frozen water in it as when I turned it on, nothing came out the end. I left it in their trough, and while I was doing the water for the cattle, there wasn't much pressure, so I went and turned the sheep water off. It had knocked the ice out and overfilled their trough.
Felt Annis' belly today, and think I may have felt some movement. Getting excited that she's going to be a mama again. Still about 2 weeks to go.
Stars' udder is starting to show some changes. About time, if the vet was right about how far she was in October.
Gave them a fresh bale of hay. Drove the truck out into the garden, then DH pulled one off without having to take the snow thrower off ! I had difficulty opening the bottom gate to give the grain to them due to all the snow. Then had to scoop all the snow out of the trough as it's stuck to the ground, and I can't tip it over.
2 dead chickens today. I was sort of expecting one to go as she was sulking in the corner, but the 2nd one was strange. Sort of looked as if it was gutted. Maybe the other chickens ate it, but I'm not sure. Didn't find any vermin in the coop, don't know if one of the dogs went in and did it. But, found 9 eggs, and just realised I didn't check the garage spot where one girl lays. Will go do it now, as it will freeze otherwise. 2 frozen eggs. Put them on a paper towel in the kitchen, will make them for breakfast.
DHs' ears have cleared up ! He said that at work on Monday, they just popped and he could hear in stereo. Yippee, haven't lost my aromatherapy touch.
Have asked some friends / customers of the farm, to save those plastic milk jugs for me. Preferably the gallon size, as I want to start our seeds in them this year. Didn't do the inside start last year, as the year before they didn't do too well. I kept them in the sun in the lounge window, kept them watered, but they were weak and spindly. I have read a lot more about starts, so am keen to try again. So if anyone else wants to give me some, please and thank you :)
