Wow, it poured again today. Had to bail the one basement window-well twice to prevent the basement from flooding. So much water coming down that the gutters were just spewing water everywhere. Herbie mused today that our pond has held water all season ! Cooled down a little tonight, but expect it to be hot and muggy again tomorrow, so I've opened the sliding door, insect screen firmly shut, and some windows that have screens to cool the house. Will close them all in the morning.
Larry is taking Boytjie tomorrow around 4. Going to be sloshing through the mud to load him into the trailer, but there'll be 3 of us.
Dolly knows to come when I call her. Walked down to get out the gate of the side pasture, and came all the way back, Boytjie escorting her part of the way, and then just on the other side of the fence from me, growling and pawing the ground. Going to miss our boy :( but will feel much safer. Larry, the calf, is getting big. Happily stays with the rest of the herd while mum goes for milking, but always happy to have her back and always tries to nurse. I know she holds milk for him :)
Yesterday I fed the chickens liver with sour milk. Hopefully that bump in protein ups their egg count. The new Buffs should start laying any day now. The little bantam girl gave up sitting on the eggs, so I chucked them down for the chickens to eat. Have one reddish girl gone broody in the dog house, so I started putting some eggs under her. Probably a bit late in the year, but I've always believed that if a mama really wants to sit, she should be allowed to.
