The night before last, after midnight, the dogs were barking and barking. I went to check, they were both in the chicken house. I envisaged massacred chickens, as they both slinked out of the house giving me that guilty look, but found a large raccoon they'd pinned in a corner. Slogged back through the snow to the house, fetched the gun, and shot it. Chickens are funny. All through the dogs being in their house, barking at, and probably attacking, the raccoon, they were all dead quiet. They stayed quiet until after the deafening shots. When the raccoon was in it's death throws, all hell broke loose. They were clucking and crowing like crazy. Yesterday morning, I removed it and threw it into the woods. A rather large and heavy one. But, thanks to the dogs, no dead chickens. So pleased that they do such a good job. I thanked them both, giving them lovings. Wonderful that Anni is teaching Lisa one of her jobs on the farm.
Herbie has been working 6-day weeks. Means he's exhausted, and therefore rather grumpy. It worries me when he's so tired, not safe to drive a bomb. He wants to get ahead on some of our financial obligations, I think I'd prefer a more relaxed, happier husband. But, if we have a little more money, then he'll probably be happier.
Picked the scabs off my knees yesterday, and my thumb has healed well, just some rough skin I need to snip off again. No bones broken in my foot, just some deep bruising. Think the boots saved me.
Today I found 11 eggs, yesterday there were 16, with 14 the day before. Plus we had a goose egg the other day, and a few duck eggs. Haven't seen a guinea fowl egg though. Was thinking of re-hanging my egg sign, but the egg fridge is snowed in ! Cannot open the door. So sent text messages out to some usual customers.
Well, it's after midnight, so off to bed with me. Good night.
