It's raining, fairly hard. Big drops, I can hear them splatter on the windowsill, on the cement patio below. Can imagine the cows huddled together under the trees by the pond, the horses and alpacas with them, the sheep crammed into their shelter. The chickens all back in their house, or standing under the eves, gimlet eyed. Only the ducks and geese actually relishing it, standing in puddles while the rain beats them.
And Herbie snores through it all. He's been sleeping for 15 hours already. Playing catch-up after another long week.
Am ruminating on expectations. Give someone a leg-up, and then not a visit, or even a hello, when they come up to our State for a conference. Disappointed. They're important now. Busy busy. Other family too, but also not, but the same result. 40 minutes East is too far. Then the look on my husbands' face, which was harder to deal with and Dad playing the diplomat. So draw your family close, enjoy their company while you can. When a famous actor offs himself due to depression, his family left behind - so sad.
