Dolly was so funny. I could hear her bellowing as it was the first night I'd kept her away from Larry. Fetched her last night and took her to the barn enclosure. Her udder was fairly empty, so I didn't even try and milk her yesterday. She had lots of fresh cut hay and water, and I milked her early so that I can better control how much milk I get. Took just under 2 gallons from her, leaving the rest for Larry. Taking her back to the pasture, she didn't dilly dally, but was right behind me all the way. She didn't even stop to munch alfalfa outside the pasture, but impatiently waited for me to open the gate and stepped inside and called for Larry. He was out in the big pasture with the other cows, and responded immediately. Once she saw him she actually ran towards him, her udder flapping around under her, to the left and right and back again. Surprised it didn't throw her off her gait. He just walked towards her, but she ran to meet him. Herbie says that a video of that would go viral :) Maybe tomorrow.
Saw a duck in the hay bale feeder this morning, but when I went to check if they were laying eggs in there, found nothing. Don't like them pooping up in the hay as the cows, horses and alpacas won't eat it then.
My glasses were digging into my nose. Discovered I've lost one of the nose pieces. Damn. Don't even know where to start looking. I think it was there last night, gone today. And the optometrist is only open Monday to Friday. Maybe I'll wander to a Chemist and see if they have temporary replacements. Heated a cup of potato soup, it was sooo thick, I actually added some milk to make it more liquid, I think it'll even be too thick for Herbie. 2 slices of marmite bread and a cup of tea, and then phoned Herbie to surprise him that I was not only up, but all the chores were already done. He didn't answer, so I sent him a text and he called back a little later. He'd been working for 6 hours already.
Wore my new-to-me flannel lined jeans and plaid shirt with thick SmartWool socks. Time to get out the Winter woolies again. Last night when I cuddled with Herbie before he went to sleep, my whole body was ice cold. I didn't feel cold earlier, but the chill factor was definitely there. Next payday I need to find a new electric blanket for him. We've had flannel sheets on the bed for a while, and it's time for the duvet to be retrieved from the linen cupboard.
Yesterday Teri and Andy arrived, bringing some tomatoes from their garden for us. Pam was supposed to come yesterday to fetch me to go concord grape picking, but she didn't arrive, and she never answers either her home phone or cell phone when I ring, and doesn't respond to messages, so not sure what happened. I think that I'll try and pick apples. There aren't many, and not all the trees have a crop this year, but maybe Jackie will come pick and then we'll press some cider again. I owe her some this year.
My arm seems to feel a little better this morning. Still feels a little weird in the upper shoulder area, but I seem to have more range of movement without as much pain. I'm still careful as I don't want to re-hurt it. Nice to be able to wash my back again :) without using the scrubber.
