Told Herbie last night that I knew he wouldn't approve, but that I'd rescued a 2ft long snake that was tied up in my deer netting around the berry garden. When I was leaving the garden the previous evening, I saw a snake, but it was already getting dark and I had a few things still to do. Then, the next day I was picking blackberries and weeding, having moved Sheila to the crab apple tree where she was closer to me. She was yipping when she couldn't see me behind the berry bushes, and I was talking to her (Anni and Lisa had taken off into the woods). Suddenly she yelped, and shot out the berry garden as far as the lead allowed. I laughed because I presumed she'd touched the electric fence. On leaving the garden, I glanced to where I'd seen the snake previously, and it was still there. OK, that is why Sheila touched the fence - she was after the snake. On closer inspection, I realised it was bound, very tightly, in the netting. I couldn't free it, so fetched a scissors from the kitchen, and snip snip snipped it out. Took a good 4 minutes, with the snake pushing it's head into the netting all the time, or curling it's back end up against me. Once free, I shoosted it among the strawberries, and then saw how long it was ! It had yellow on it's belly, and was thicker than my thumb. Poor thing, but it didn't seem too worse for wear after it's ordeal. And on the plus side, maybe Sheila will connect the snake to the zap of the fence, and she won't try play with them in future.
Took my rings in to the jeweller today to make them a little bigger. It's nearly a year since I hurt my hand, and there seems to be a small bone spur on the joint that doesn't allow me to put them on anymore. She also pointed out that 2 of the clasps on the one diamond need repairing, so that'll be done too. Don't want to lose any diamonds :) although I don't wear it while working on the farm, just for going out, or on special occasions.
The guy eventually arrived yesterday to bury the new cable. The team that bored under the concrete and neighbours driveway did their part a week ago, and the cable was just lying on the ground. He said he used a 1,300 ft cable, and it wasn't long enough. Wow, and here I thought our driveway was under a thousand feet long. I stopped at the local rental place in town today, it's $220 to hire a DitchWitch for a day, with another $30 for a trailer to bring it home. So I've added that project to my future list.
