'Twas a long day. Herbie wanted to see his daughter, grandson and the new 5-week old granddaughter, but they live close to Detroit, about 2 ½ hours from us. Herbie hates driving on his days off work, and I can't blame him.
This morning he did the morning chores, I just gave hay and water to the cows, milked Dolly, washed up in the milk parlour and fed Bandit, after packing away a load of laundry and making our bed and putting clean sheets on the spare room queen-size bed, before hopping into the shower to get ready to leave.
Herbie showered after I was done, but he was really dragging his feet. Tuesdays are normally his rest day, and he had also completed installing the instant hot water heater and pipes in the feed room. Thank you Dahlink, it's super to have hot water on tap down there, no more schlepping buckets through the tunnel.
It was raining when we left, but cleared up during the trip. Noddy is a cute little car, but when I stopped to pee about 2 hours later, we were both happy to get out and stretch our legs. Horrid Shell garage. Not sure when it happened, but I used to love getting in the car and just driving. Now I'd rather stay home. Must have something to do with getting old :/.
We arrived and both kids were sleeping. Gave Nanette the bag of clothes and books, and she seemed to like them. We saw their house, and visited a while, and both kids slept. When Dakota stirred, Nanette picked her up but she settled back into sleeping. Herbie held her, this tiny, perfect little girl, and reminisced about Nanette as a baby. She seemingly screamed blue murder for a few years from birth. She screamed when she wasn't fed fast enough, she screamed when she was supposed to go to sleep. Everyone thinks it's unfair that both her kids are cool and calm, no trouble, sleeping through the night !
We left, and then Chad woke up. I asked Herbie if he wanted to go back inside, but we were cutting it fine timewise to do evening chores and for him to get to bed. Only arrived home just before 9pm and encountered a huge thunder storm on the way. We stopped to have a Gyro to eat, was so-so. Supposed to be lamb, but was more like mystery meat.
Good to be back home. Threw the stick for Anni a little, poor girl missed me today and Rosco was running and playing with her and me. Funny boy. Collected eggs, fed the dogs their dry food and treats. Herbie went to bed shortly after we arrived home. Our internet connection on the computer isn't working, I've had a glass of red wine, so off to bed with me. Tomorrow is probabably going to be a quiet day here.
