Oy vey. The heating and cooling guy arrived late this afternoon. $95 call out fee which covers the 1st hour, then $95 for every additional 15 minutes meant no chit chat. He wanted to inspect the whole system first, I thought about how long that'd take (cha-ching 🎶) so told him I'd had an energy audit and that there was a bit of a gas leak at the back close to the geyser, so he took the back off, and showed me a crack in the heat exchanger. Then he held up his hands and said he couldn't continue. What ??? He said he couldn't fix that, but I answered that I could. I asked how to clean the points which is usually what is wrong with them. He told me and then left after assuring me I didn't owe them anything and that he'd send through an estimate for replacing the unit on Monday. So much for a quick fix so that we have heat this week-end, when the weather is expected to get a lot cooler.
Sure way to mess up a budget. Medical bills, for people and animals, a huge internet bill - damn OS8 downloads for our phones and one movie stuck us way over our limit, at least our utility bill is only $25 because they double billed us last month. Then we have the farm insurance due next month. Seems such a waste. Paid about $5,600 so far, with nothing to show for it. I'm not a fan of insurance, yet we have to have so many different ones here - car is mandatory, so is medical and they don't pay for anything, then home / farm. l I never had home insurance in South Africa.
Chatted with my sister yesterday. 'Twas her birthday. Wish you all good things, Mooi Ding :)
Still no word on the status of my green card renewal. Only been waiting for 5 ½ months. Their website says they're running at 5.2 months, yeah, right. Had a head-hunter ask me to submit my resume for a fuel job in Ohio. Told her I was still awaiting my green card, but she wanted it, so I sent it through. Not getting my hopes up.
Well, that's all for now.
