Doing chores this morning and found 5 eggs on the chicken house floor ! 5 !
Opened the gate for the 2 milk cows, and Dolly, followed by Daisy May walked across the backyard, without being tied together or on a lead ! I said 'wait' when we reached the pasture. Dolly stopped, Daisy May moved a little to her left away from me when I went around them to open the gate, but followed Dolly into the pasture. First time without a fight. It's only taken her 7 weeks, she's obviously a slow learner. Now the next step of moving Eleanor to the pasture and bringing Daisy May and Dolly up for milking daily. With Eleanor nearly 2 months old, she's old enough to go back to the herd. She would have been there from about a week old if mama wasn't such a slow learner, plus I didn't want Star to be by herself all day in the lower barn enclosure. Still mulling if I should wean Larry. He's 6-months old so it's time, but it also means I'll have to milk Dolly every day. Maybe I could take her out to Larry on Thursday after milking and then bring her back on Saturday evening, leaving her with Star the rest of the time. So he gets to nurse for 2 days, sort of a slower weaning process.
Ellie died sometime last night. She didn't look good yesterday morning. Poor girl. I was saved having to decide about shooting her this morning :(. These things come in 3s, don't they ? We've had Levi and Ellie die, not sure who's next.
