Yesterday Salle came to shear some more of my sheep. We did 3 - Prince, Ruthie and the nameless boy twin from last year. He's a pretty boy, and with him on his tail, saw that his balls were striped, lighter closer to the body, then black with white tips. So, he is now christened Saturn :) His twin brother is the one that broke his one horn off in the feeder, so I just refer to him as the one-horned boy-twin. Salle is getting rather good at shearing. They're my shears, but she hardly ever lets me use them :). Now have mulch for the fruit trees, and the wool from Prince looks good for processing. Prince is huge. With a round belly he's sort of like a budda ram. They have funny penis'. Sort of hooked at the end, with a tentacle ! The position of them on their tails seems to relax them. Either that, or they really enjoyed 2 woman giving them a beauty treatment and cutting their nails ! Only needed to give Prince de-worming meds, Ruthie and Saturn were fine.
Melissa and her husband, Jordan and their 3 kids came to collect milk. I'd asked them if Thursday would work instead of Wednesday, as on Tuesday we milked at 8 am before going to Clio, but Wednesday we needed to leave home by 6am, and milking at 5 am was just not going to happen ! On Tuesday, Dolly was like, hey, what we doing so early ! They looked at some of the beasties. The eldest daughter wanted to hop on Levi for a ride after visiting with the cows.
Then Chris and his wife Tanya then came over to look at Big Red. Beautiful boy. They have 2 similar aged / sized steers, and a swop may be doable, but I'm not liking steers as they distribute their fat differently and there's lots more of it. Will see. Otherwise I'll just send him to butcher.
There is a frost warning for tonight, newspaper advising having to scrape frost from car windows in the morning. Yet the days have been clear and sunny. Sorry that we couldn't get some things done on the farm in this great weather this past week-end, and it's scheduled to rain early next week.
