Waiting for a guy to come and see Pearl. He's running late, and hasn't answered my text asking if he was close.
I did all the feeding this morning, DH watered the cows. He was tired of my soup / stew, so made him eggs, opened a jar of my spicy salsa and spooned in on top of the eggs, buttered toast (cut on the diagonal) a tomato and a cucumber. I had soup, with Marmite soldiers.
Doran arrived, he's deaf. Spent some time looking at Pearl, and he wanted her. So hitched the horse trailer to the truck, drove into the vegetable garden, and spent a good half hour chasing her around. Star and Pigtails slipped out of the garden down the side of the truck, and happily trotted after Doran who had fetched a grain bucket. Shoo-ed them back in, after moving the truck out of the entrance-way. Re-positioned the trailer above the chute I'd built. Drove the buggy into the pasture, chased about 5 cows / bulls down the chute. Opened the side gate and let all the others out, keeping Pearly inside. Dropped the trailer ramp, and pushed and pulled her in. Drove 40 miles with her, and dropped her off. His sister is also deaf, and she told me that his girlfriend was also deaf. He told me he had a cochlear implant, could hear noise, but needed to look at you while speaking to read lips to understand. Smart guy too. He built their milking shed, one stall for cows, one with stand for the goats, plus he built their barn. Hope Pearl is happy there. Just did the calculation to South African Rands. We sold her for R 12,500. Not bad for a calf born on our farm 2 years ago ! Now just to sell the others, and we'll have enough to feed the rest for the Winter, and maybe pay the next batch of property taxes.
Stopped off at 3 shops to do some shopping on the way home, GFS for a large container of Hellmans mayonaise, Aldis' for Coffee chocolate and a couple of other things, then on to SAMS Club, for loo paper, water softner salt and some other things. Haven't been to "town" for shopping for about 3 months. I was in the truck with the horse trailer, so parked far away and walked. Anni came with me, but she stays in the truck while I shop. I let her out in the parking lot at SAMS, but she didn't pee, just sniffed around all the poles, smelling other dogs :)
The last 2 photos were taken in our back yard, the others on my way home, out of the truck window. Absolutely stunning. Not seen that "spike" before, straight up.
