Discovered that we had trees fallen on the electric fence in at least 6 places. I could clear 3 of them, but need the chain saw to do the last 3, and couldn't check around the whole hay field because of the blockages. Unplugged the fence as it wasn't working, and fortunately where the fence is pushed down onto the ground, it's in a closed pasture so the cows can't go walk-about.
Took the little tractor with the snow thrower out to clear the driveway, between the house and shed, to the chicken house and where I drive with the buggy to do the water for the cows and chickens, and then salted the driveway by hand so that DH could make it up. Today it's expected to reach a balmy 36 degrees, so hopefully we will have some of the ice melt so that we don't experience any more tree breakages. I'm scared to move under some of them they're leaning so badly due to the ice weight. They are sparkly and beautiful when the sun shines on them, but unfortunately, no sun today.
The cows have slowed down on their hay consumption, at last ! It's really good quality and each bale seems to be lasting about 4 days which is twice as long as before we sold 6 cows. Want to move the 2 alpaca cria girls to the sheep enclosure, as they are getting cow-pooped ! It's really amazing how much poop cows emit.
My DH is working with the dishwasher. It's been leaking for a while, so I found the manual for it, he's taken the front off and is trying to find the leak. This, people, is why you don't want to install an eye-level dishwasher. It pours water down through the cupboard below. From the shouting and swearing coming from the kitchen, I presume it's not going too well.
Made 4 poached eggs for breakfast, only one was bright orange, the other 3 were pale yellow. Besides the consistancy of the white, they almost looked like store-bought eggs. Those chickies need some green stuff. Incentive to me to start the fodder system with the barley for them. Only problem is that it needs a 75 degree place to germinate well, and our house is usually 10 degrees cooler than that.
Didn't get the chain saw started, so I'm probably not going to be able to cut fallen wood today either. Hope the cows don't figure out that the fence isn't working, they like to go walk-about ! At least we'll try the dairy first to find them this time :)
