Went to see Randy, Fletch and Brownie this afternoon. They are all good - Randy told us he had had a date ! Fletch was excited to see us, as usual. He and Anni were doing a strange dog dance, which made us all laugh. Went out to visit with Brownie, always take him something to eat. Man, he's a fine looking bull. Randy had many calves, so Brownie is earning his keep. We get 2 x girl and 2 x boy calves shortly in payment for the use of Brownie. I looked at them today, yes they're cute, but a few had the scours and thus poopy bums, and I'm not really interested in going through the whole bottle feed program anymore. Prefer our system where the calves stay with their mums. Results - no scours, no unhappy mums or calves, no sickness, no need for hourly force tummy feeding of sick calves, and they all get sick !
Other than doing the normal chores, didn't accomplish much today, just a quiet day on the farm, in bad weather. No new lambs, no calves yet.
Breakfast was interesting this morning. I fried us each a goose egg. They are huge ! And delicious. I like the yolk of the egg best and goose eggs have the biggest yolks you could imagine. Have a guy interested in buying them for eating, decided I'd sell them for $ 1 each. Reasonable if you consider that if I left the eggs for the mama geese to hatch I could sell the goslings for $ 8 each.
Betsi took 4 dozen eggs today with her milk. We weren't here to visit with her, she works at a nursery and is always very informative and helpful where plants are concerned.
