Called the vet out this morning, but we couldn't get close to her. An hour of chasing her around the pasture of mud and muck, on foot, in the buggy, on the tractor. Managed to corner her about 4 times, but she always chose to break through where I was and the vet was never able to toss his noose over her head. He left and we still have no calf. That's going to be an expensive bit of nothing. She broke through 2 electric fences, one with the strand of barbed wire in the middle to escape us.
She's now outside the pasture in the thickets somewhere, we couldn't find her. She's probably lying down. Our friend Sam is supposedly flying into Ionia airport today or tomorrow, and may take me for a flip over the farm, hopefully it's today, and we can spot her from the air. Hope she hasn't fallen and broken something, as losing the calf is horrible, but losing the cow as well is just tragic.
Sherry and John called to pick up their lambs. I managed to corral them by myself, so when they arrived just after 11 am, I just caught the little boys and lifted them over the fence to John, who popped them into their truck. Took all of 15 minutes max. Tried to rub Izzys' bum against that of the singleton in the hopes that his mum, BaaBaa would accept and feed Izzy, but I don't think it worked. Izzy sees me as mum now, and won't stay with the other sheep as they push her out of the way.
Only had about 3 hours sleep last night, stayed up with Milkshake until just before 3 am, and then up again at 6:10 to feed Izzy and do all the morning chores. Herbie came home around 3:30 am, and missed all the fun with the vet.
I still have fruit trees to plant, and discovered while planting the 10 hazelnut trees that there for 5 Osage Orange trees instead of the 2 that were in my head, so I only have 2 holes dug and virtually dismantled the post-hole digger from the tractor. It's going to be interesting to re-attach it by myself, it's heavy. Maybe I'll just dig the 3 missing holes with the pick-axe and a spade like I did for the egg sign down by the road.
Supposed to process another 4 chickens today and it's already after 3 pm. Need to get them done as I have orders waiting and the money is needed, especially with the additional vet bill that's going to come as well. Put the water on to boil, and will go see if Milkshake has turned up.
